The labeled ranges
- Readiness assessment: $25,000–$60,000 — the dry run. Always worth it before a validated assessment.
- i1 validated assessment: $40,000–$100,000 — assessor-led, 1-year certification.
- r2 validated assessment: $75,000–$200,000+ — the full program, 2-year certification.

The forgotten line items
- HITRUST's own fees: assessment purchases and MyCSF access are separate from assessor fees — ask your assessor to itemize them.
- Remediation: the assessment finds gaps; fixing them costs staff time or consulting fees on top.
- Evidence collection: first-timers routinely underestimate the internal hours to gather and organize evidence.
- Interim reviews: r2's 2-year certification still expects ongoing control operation — budget for the interim year.
